New Hampshire was one of a small number of colonies (I think Massachusetts was the only other one) that had its own constitution prior to the establishment of the US Constitution. But it was New Hampshire's ratification and signing of the US Constitution in June of 1788 that established the US as a nation, and the Constitution as the law of the US.
