The US could do no wrong in the world after WW2. People in other countries wouldn't even take money from an American if they wanted to but something for years afterwards. Things have changed haven't they.

That is debatable, after the second world war USA emerged powerful for their nuclear Bombing of two Japanese cities but so did Russia because they eventually surrounded Hitler; forcing him to commit suicide. This sparked the beginning of a period known as the cold war, when both the USA and Russia lived in fear of one another and kept a close watch on the development of nuclear weapons.
