First, be aware that all presidents receive hundreds and hundreds of messages; these days, more people are using e-mail, but some still write letters and send them via snail mail. In either case, the president generally will not read every letter because there are too many of them. He has a staff who read the messages and then give him some. Mr. Obama does in fact personally answer messages sometimes, but sometimes it is his staff who will respond. I enclose a link to the official contact information at the White House.
