Communism! The pilgrims considered it an enourmous failure that after 7 years, they had to abandon this form of government, because it meant that people were not willing to work toward the common good. By taking away individual achievement, they found that people were unwilling to work!

The first government representative in the New World was John White, mayor of the Roanoke colony. His colony disappeared during a trip he made to England to secure provisions to try and support the failing excursion.
