Mount Vernon, George Washington's home, had several gardens; each having their own unique purpose. In the Pleasure Garden, Washington had bulbs, annuals, and perennials that grew in every season. The Kitchen Garden grew a wide assortment of fruits and vegetables that would later be found on the Washington's kitchen table. George Washington also had a Botanical Garden where he would experiment with growing different types of plants. Last, but not least, was the Fruit Garden and Nursery. Washington first began growing different types of wheat grains and vegetables to help him in his farming experiment. He later decided to try his hand at growing different types of fruits, supplying him with fresh fruit much of the year.
