β 10y ago1) Lack of money and supplies (at one point, had to actually conduct raiding parties to acquire food for army) 2) No navy (hence the need to get the French involved)
3) Poorly trained/disciplined forces
4) Inconsistent domestic support

β 11y agoThey did not have proper uniforms for the most part - shoes were a big issue. There were shelter, food and training issues as well. In comparison to the British - most were men who strove to free America, but had been farmers or store owners prior to going to war.

I think it came from the American Revolution. The "Patriots" were people from England who were in what is now the U.S.(some were in New England), and beleived that they no longer were citizens of England. They fought against the British in the Revolutionay War and won.
