Women's right to vote has been a right that had taken too long to be obtained. The first countries that allowed women to vote were Finland, Sweden and only a few states of the U.S., this was in the late 19th Century.

The 1918 Representation of the People Act first granted women suffrage the right to vote. Most women over 30 could vote although there were a few limits. The act also removed restrictions on male suffrage allowed all men over the age of 21 to vote.

The unequal requirements did not last long. The 1928 Representation of the People Act allowed all women over the age of 21 to vote, on the same terms as men. In the 1960s the voting age was lowered to 18.
