The executive branch of the government started when George Washington was elected the first President of the United States in 1787 at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Aside from Washington's election to the presidency, the United States Constitution was also created at the convention.

The Legislative Branch has the power to pass laws. The Executive Branch can veto laws, and the Judicial Branch can check laws to make sure that they are constitutional (and can end them if they are not).
