Leif Eriksson named an island he encountered during his explorations "Helluland", which is believed to be modern-day Baffin Island in Canada. This island was characterized by its rugged, rocky terrain.
Helluland was likely located on the east coast of Baffin Island in present-day Canada. It was part of the Vinland sagas and was described as a land with flat stones (likely referring to the rocky terrain).
Around 1002 AD and judging by digs in the area maybe a few times after that.
I guess it would be about 1001. But research more on that because im not fully sure
Leif Erikksson was a viking. He explored around 1003, in the Baffin Islands, or Helluland district.
I think you mean where. On his first voyage, which was to Norway (Leif being from Greenland) he would have landed at many places including Iceland. When it comes to his famous voyages to North America his first landing spot in North America was at Helluland which is likely in today's Newfoundland.
The first European settlement in the lands now part of the Canadian Confederation would be the Viking settlement at what is now called L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland. The exact name used for the settlement by the Vikings is not known but it is part of the area they called Vinland. The Vikings also appeared to have settled on Baffin Island, an area they called Helluland.
nobody knows --------- Nobody knows for sure but we can be pretty sure he retraced the voyage of Bjarni Herjulfsson. Bjarni saw North America but did not go ashore. Leif did, at Helluland, Markland and Vinland. He over wintered at Vinland and returned to Greenland in the spring.
