Saint Benjamin was born in 329 AD and martyred circa 424 AD. He is venerated by the Orthodox and Eastern rite Christians. Saint Benjamin was imprisoned during his life time under two Persian emperors. He was released on the condition that he cease preaching Christianity. He protested, that as a deacon, one of the steps towards priesthood, that it was his duty to preach the Christian Gospel as one who was about to be a priest. As a result he was cruelly tortured and martyred circa 424 AD. Saint Benjamim also appears in the Roman Catholic martyrology but does not have a feast day assigned on the Roman Church's calendar of saints.

The feast day of Saint Benjamin the Deacon is on March 31 in the Catholic Church.
