Thomas Johnathon Jackson, the son of indentured servants shipped to America as the sentence handed down by an English judge. He got the Stonewall nickname as the commander of the Stonewall Brigade during the Civil War. This brigade never retreated but always stood as a "stone wall" in front of the Union Army.

Earlier, Bee had made a derogatory comment about Jackson standing on the hill like a stone wall [while his men and Bartow's men were being killed]. Yet, Jackson resisted the Union advance until Confederate reinforcements arrived, and the nickname "Stonewall" became complimentary after that.
