Loyalists or Tories are patriots. They were the ones who fought in the American Revolution, staying loyal to the British crown. Their social responsibility is to fight for the King during the first American Civil War.
Loyalists were favoured by the British government, which did it's best to protect them, but they were still often harrassed (extensively) by rebels. Assuming that you are talking about the American Revolution, the loyalists were those who did not want to become independent from Great Britain. They did many things, such as ratting out other colonists who were against the British Parliament. They also would help out British soldiers by providing them with food, shelter, and medical treatment during the war.
