Utah was founded by Mormon Pioneers. They first arrived in the area in 1847, when it was part of Mexico. At the time they were led by Brigham Young.

That being said Native Americans "founded" Utah long before.

Brigham Young originally wanted to name Utah "Deseret" but the US government said no, because who would want to live in a state with a name that sounds like desert? So Utah is named for a large native American tribe, the Utes.

If you are referring to the year that Utah became a state, it was 1896. Before that of course Indians, early settleres, and trappers all "founded" Utah.
