James Madison was the winner in 1808 with 122 electoral votes. His main opponent was Charles C. Pinckney, Federalist from South Carolina who got 47 votes. Madison was from Jefferson's Democratic-Republican party and was also a Virginian. As would be expected, Pinckney carried the Northeast and picked up 3 of the 11 electoral votes in SC. Madison won the rest.
