It would appear that there have been no foreign born U.S. presidents. While the Constitution considers foreign born peoples living in the U.S. at the time of ratification to be eligible none were elected.

Just as a minor addendum for those interested, in United States presidential election of 1789 candidate Edward Telfair was foreign born. Also in the United States presidential election of 1796 candidates James Iredell, and Samuel Johnston were both foreign born.

There may be some others contenders as well but unfortunately there is surprisingly little information immediately available about early presidential candidates

Barack Obama's father was born in Kenya and is the only presidential parent who did not become a US citizen or a citizen of what later became the US. . Andrew Jackson (1829-1837) is the only president born of two immigrants, both from Northern Ireland. Presidents with one immigrant parent are Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809), whose mother was born in England, James Buchanan (1857-1861) and Chester Arthur (1881-1885), both of whom had Protestant Irish fathers. Arthur's mother was born in Vermont, but her family moved to Canada and that is where she met her husband and where they lived before moving to the US together. Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921) and Herbert Hoover (1929-1933), whose mothers were born respectively in England and Canada.

None, you can't become a U.S president if you're foreign According to the U-S Constitution, in order to be able to become a President the person must be at least 35 years of age and a native born citizen of the U-S. So there have been no foreign born Presidents of the U-S. Unless one counts the first seven U-S Presidents, who were born in what were then the Colonies. Martin Van Buren, the eight President of the U-S was the first President born in America and the first President not born of English ancestors. He was of Dutch ancestors while the other seven Presidents, including Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams, etc. were born of English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish ancestors.

Every US president was born in what is now the United States.

Every president before John Tyler (born 1790) was born in a British colony which later became one of the United States. Many cite Martin Van Buren as the first born in the US, but he was born in 1782 and the Revolution ended in 1783.

Chester Arthur was born in Vermont, close enough to the Canadian border that opponents said he was born in Canada, but no proof was presented and Arthur said he was born in Vermont.
