State constitutions were necessary following the declaration of independence because of disagreement between the states. There had to be some unity within each state to promote unity within the country.

They didn't because they weren't "states". They were still colonies and will remain so until 1789 when the constitution was ratified. The Declaration of Independence was written in 1775, the first shots of the revolution were in April of 1776 so there were no states in 1775.
