They fought both sides
The unruly Hessians cost the British the support of many areas that the British had hoped would remain loyalist
The colonists were planning to attack Trenton on early morning the day after Christmas in hopes that the hessians at Trenton would not be sober to fight however only 1/3 of the colonists army made it to Trenton across the Delaware to fight the hessians but in the end the colonists suprise attack caught the Hessians way off guard and catipulted the colonists to victory in that battle.
I believe it would be false. The British hired mercenaries for Hess, a province of Germany. The Hessians were the ones captured in Washington's famous Christmas raid. Many Hessians were granted parole and stayed in the colonies to raise families and become a part of the new country.
With France in the war and the northern army defeated, the British looked to the South to regain the upper hand. In order to win in the South, they planned get loyal colonists to fight for them. They also offered slaves freedom if they would fright for the British. The tide of war was turning in favor of the Americans.; idk if it worked....- apex
they were hired as mercenaries...essentially, they were paid to fight.
If you mean the German soldiers that the British hired, that would be the Hessians. If you're talking about the actual British soldiers, that would be redcoats.
In the American revolution the hessians worked for the British. They had cruel minds and only thought of killing. Many hessians during the war forgot about there family back in germany. This was exactly what the British wanted. The Americans though they had no chance against one of the biggest armies in the world. The hessians liked straight line tactics or just charging into war. Once Someone was killed in the first row someone in the second row would take their place. The Americans preferred gorilla tactics that the hessians didn't know about.
