Southern Greece was largely taken over by the Dorian Greeks who established Sparta, Corinth etc. There was always some tension with the other cultural and linguistic groups - Achaean Greeks (Sicyon etc) Ionian Greeks (Athens etc) and Aeolian Greeks (Thebes etc), however warfare was normal between Greek cities regardless or origin - their alliances shifted sometimes on origin, often on current self-interest.
