In the new kingdom there was a pharaoh named Hatshepsut . Hatshepsut was woman but in most of her statues she was a man because it was not usual for a women to be a pharaoh. She declared herself pharaoh of Egypt in 1503 B.C. . Hatshepsut was the stepmother of a child named Thutmose III at about 1500 B.C. he became pharaoh, but he was to young so Hatshpsut became a regent (a person who rules for a child until the child is old enough to rule ) . Hatshepsut ruled Egypt for at about 22 years. She was a very good pharaoh . When Thutmose III was old enough to rule Hatshepsut refused to give the throne to him . Thutmose III took the throne when she died of a mysterious death. No one knows if he had a hand in her death but all of Hatshepsuts statues were destroyed. Thutmose III was one of the greatest pharaohs of the New Kingdom.
