The art of Roman is a lot like the art we have today. Where do you think tiles came from? Roman art is a lot like Etruscanand Greek art. A lot of Roman art illustrated gods, goddesses, and other important people. When the Romans conquered Greece they saw Greek art in temples, cementaries, in the public square and in peoples houses. Romans thought Greek art was soooo much cooler. so they brought back greek art. (maybe stole it, bought it, got it as a present...) Some sculptors were brought to Rome as slaves. In the first century A.D. wall painting was divided into 4 different styles: 1st style: The first style was called Fresco. The Romans painted walls to make it look like marble panels. (it was a lot cheaper though!) 2nd style: Here, Romans added more detail to the marble. They added garlands, fruit, birds and flowers to the paintings. Sometimes Romans would paint something on the window to make it look like a gentle scene. 3rd style: this style is an extended version of the previous two. It looks like marble, and consists of scenes and people. 4th style: this style tries to trick your eyes. It is vivid and detailed. Made of marble, has people and scenes, and garlands, fruit, birds and flowers in the backround. So its a combination of the 2nd and 3rd styles. Romans made sculptures, mosaics, carved glass and paintings. GLASS: glass blowing was developed in B.C. PAINTINGS : Romans were interested in doing portraits of people for decoration. Some painters mixed hot wax with their paints in order to make the paintings mor thick and creamy. Most of the Roman panels were lost from decaying. Romans believed in a portrait lied the spirit of a person. It was said that if the spirit was desgraced, their face would be scratched out! MOSAICS : Ever wonder where tiles came from? A mosaic is a picture made up of tiles. Most churches, temples, palaces and villas had a mosaic floor. More detailed mosaics were placed in wooden frames. A mosaic was made by taking cubes of stone, marble and pottery which was then pressed into the cement. Mosaics described daily life, the empire and special events in ancient Rome. SCULPTURE: Romans built a sculpture to represent legendary and important events. Sculptures were made from marbe, bronze and sardonyx. The Romans did both reliefs and sculptures. A relief is a sculpture carved on a wall or flat surface. An example of this is the Trajans column. For more info google Roman Art. Look at pictures to develope an understanding for ancient art. Look up the different types of art. Internet isn't the only source. So please im begging u, read a book!!!!!!!!!! its good for you!!!!!!
