However, when they buried possessions with the body, rich people normally had shabtis to serve them in the afterlife. The rich also had better items than the poor people. Poor people were just wrapped in linen and buried. The rich would have tombs and coffins and priests would recite spells so that evil would not harm the rich on the way to their after-life. Only people who could afford this process would go through the mummification process. : )
