Theodosius I (347-395 AD) was the last emperor to rule the entire Roman Empire, beginning in 379 AD. After his death, the empire was divided between his sons, Arcadius and Honorius. The Eastern Empire became dominant and wealthy. The Western Empire became increasingly defenseless against invasions by barbarians until it finally fell in 476.
Theodosius II (401-450 AD), son of Arcadius and grandson of Theodosius I, was the emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire for the first half of the 5th century AD. Known for the law code Codex Theodosianus and the erection of the walls of Constantinople known as the Theodosian Wall.

The Eastern Empire would have probably fallen along with the Western Empire.
It was destroyed by the christian emperor Theodosius the second in 426 AD like many other temples because they were dedicated to the 12 Olympians (12 gods).
In 393 AD, the Roman Emperor Theodosius I issued a decree that effectively banned pagan practices and closed temples throughout the Roman Empire, marking a significant step in the establishment of Christianity as the dominant religion. This decree was part of Theodosius's broader campaign to promote Christianity and suppress paganism, reflecting the growing influence of the Christian church in Roman society. The banning of the Olympic Games also occurred during this period, further illustrating the decline of pagan traditions.
In 401, the temple in its last version was finally destroyed by a mob led by St. John Chrysostom, and the stones were used in construction of other buildings; all temples were declared closed by Theodosius I in 391.
