Kidding aside there is some tradition and arguably evidence a tribe of somewhat martial-like women migrated and held forth in Northern Italy in a sort of backwoods area well into, well, and it is a bad analogy, the Times of Joan of Arc. These latter day Amazons wore costumes with an Italian bent, and there were reports of preserved bodies of these unusually tall women being exhumed in Northern Italy that have not been confirmed.I wish I had more information. it is hinted the female knights in Tarot Cards (commencing circa l452) may have been inspired by these Gals and not merely St. Joan.
