In Egyptian Times, the role of a "Pharaoh", was very complex. It was harder than that of the Absolute Monarch. The difference? Pharaoh's had religious duties too.

The Pharaoh, was the Head of Government. Like, the President, or Prime Minister of a country, the Pharaoh was deemed to always have the absolute answer to every problem, every possible sin to be done by Mankind.

The Pharaoh, was also the Commander in Chief. Like, the Governor of a country. They headed all wars, fought in many, (Of course, not too much. Egyptians only did so when they were at a severe disadvantage, which was also, very rarely), and even made plans for specific soldiers.

The Pharaoh was also like the Law Book. They knew what was a sin and what was not. That's what lead them to be considered a "God". They were divine, see, the living incarnation of Horus. When the Pharaoh died, it was to be a willing sacrifice, beneficial to the country.

The Pharaoh was also The High Priest of EVERY Temple! There were literally NO priests in Egypt. The Priests were really just the Stand-In's for the Pharaohs, since no person, nor thing, may be in every place at once (Just wait till Science proves me wrong there, LOL). All offerings in Egyptian Temples, were in the end, a sacrifice to the Holy King.

And lastly: Succession! Prior to the Pharaoh's death, they would make SURE someone decent would take their throne. It could be a hereditary based thing, but not mandatory. Several great Pharaoh's chose their children to be the next.

But that failed on occasion- They would prove weak. But other Pharaoh's took note of a distinct person's attributes and entitled them to being Pharaoh.

The pharoahs were the kings of Egypt. The royal cult dates back to the earliest dynastic period in Egypt, and from the start it supported the concept of the king as the 'good god' the incarnation of the the god Horus, son of Re, and the intermediary between the people and all divine beings. When the king died, he was thought to become Osiris, god of the dead, in the Underworld.

The kings of Egypt were normally the sons and heirs of their immediate predecessors, either by the Great Wife, the chief consort or by a lesser-ranked wife.

The Kings of the Early dynastic period (2920-2575) were monarchs who were intent upon ruling a unified land, although the actual process of unification was not completed until 2649 BC. There is evidence that these early kings were motivated by certain ideals concerning their responsibilities to the people, ideals which were institutionalized in later eras. Like the gods, who created the universe out of chaos, the pharoah was responsible for the orderly conduct of human affairs. upon ascending the throne, later kings of Egypt claimed that they werer restoring the spirit of Ma'at (cosmic order and harmony) in the land.

Warfare was an essential aspect of the king's role from the beginning. The rulers of the predynastic eras had fought to establish unity, and the first dynastic rulers had to defend borders, put down rebellions, and organize the exploitation of Natural Resources.

Government was in place by the dynastic period, the nation being divided into provinces called Nomes. royal authority was imposed by an army of officials, who were responsible for the affairs of both Upper and Lower Egypt. The law was the expression of the king's will, and all matters, both religious and secular, were dependent upon his assent. The entire administration of Egypt, in fact, was but an extension of the king's power.

Fun fact: The pharohs ussually had very big penises, roughly about 12in average
