Ah, the ancient Greeks followed a religion called Hellenism. They believed in a pantheon of gods and goddesses who ruled different aspects of life, such as Zeus, Athena, and Apollo. The Greeks honored these deities through rituals, sacrifices, and festivals, finding beauty and meaning in their connection to the divine.

The ancient Greeks had a polytheistic religion, with many rather anthropomorphic gods and goddesses, squabbling with each other and getting into all sorts of trouble. This religion no longer has any believers, however, it is fondly remembered as Greek mythology, and it remains a fascinating fantasy.

The ancient Greeks had their own religion including the warship of Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Athena, Ares, and more. Later the Romans took the same myths but just renamed their gods, Zeus was Jupiter, Poseidon was Neptune, ect. If you know Roman mythology just find the names of the Greek characters. But mainly the Greeks had their own religion, I hope that answered your question

--It's important to note that worship of the gods was regional, with some cities, like Athens, paying more homage to specific gods over others. That said, every settlement had a shrine to Hestia and to Zeus, if nothing else. Ares was only widely worshiped in Sparta.

Also, they Romans didn't just take the Greek gods and use different names. The people of the Italian peninsula had their own pantheon of gods when The Trojan refugees came and founded their settlements. They discovered that many of the stories were similar, and that the roles of the gods were as well, so they superimposed the Latin names over the Greek gods and combined the religions. Some myths, however, were Latin in origin (like the story of Arachne) and some undeniably Greek (Apollo and Daphne). Roman religion, though, was not centered on regional worship, like in Greece. All settlements had shrines to Vesta and Jupiter, as well as Mars and each house had its own household gods as well. Apollo and Athena, while widely worshipped in Greece, had much more minor roles in Roman religion, whereas Ares (as Mars) and Aphrodite (as Venus) had more primary roles (because of the mythical connection to the cities founding).
