Ahmose I was the founder of the Eighteenth Egyptian dynasty. Ruling from 1550-1526 B.C.E., Ahmose I is most known for defeating the Hyksos, but he also reunified Egypt. Ahmose I captured more territory and started the New Kingdom, under which Egyptian power peaked. He reorganized the tax system, repaired canals and irrigation systems, and reopened quarries, mines, and trade routes. Reviving monumental constructions and the arts, he also had a cenotaph built in Abydos, a very sacred city. Honoring the god Amun, he enlarged the temple in Thebes which set an example for future rulers and started the rise of Amun above other gods.
Amenhotep III changed the whole way that people looked at Egypt... He Changed the religion around and he totally iscolated himself from Egypt, but that was very explainable considering that when he was little his parents hated and was ashamed of himself so much that they pretended that he never existed. Amenhotep III changed all the art and culture and Egypt. Some people considered his reign sometime successful and sometimes a big failure.
1. Amenhotep III became a pharaoh around age 12.
2. Amenhotep-Heqawaset was his birth name, meaning "Amun is Pleased, Ruler of Thebes".
3. His throne name was Neb-maat-re, meaning "Lord of Truth is Re".
4. His mortuary temple, on the west bank, is the largest single temple known. However, all that remains of it today are the two huge statues, the "Colossi of Memnon".
5. The only thing to show of his tomb today, in the West Valley of the Kings, is an unimposing, and often unnoticed hole in the ground.
6. The Great Royal wife of Amenhotep III was Tiy, mother of Akhenaten.
7. He also married his daughter Sitamon.
8. It is believed that he had in excess of 300 wives.
Amenhotep IV was also known as Echnaton. He became famous for doing away with all Egypt's gods and establishing a monotheistic (one-god-only) religion. In his case, that one god was the sun.
The period of his reign is also famous for it's art, which was very real-life in contrast to the earlier (and later) Egyptian art.
After Amenhotep's death, the changes he made were quickly turned back by the priests and by his son Tutankhamun.
