It was the oath that Helen's father, Tyndareus, King of Sparta, made all of her suitors take before he would announce whom he had chosen for her husband. Since so many kings had come to court Helen (who chose Menelaus herself, although he was not present), Tyndareus was afraid to accept any gifts or name any favorite for fear of giving any of those present a reason to quarrel with him. Odysseus, who knew he never had a chance, offered to help Tyndareus of the Spartan king would support his bid to marry Penelope, daughter of King Icarius. Tyndareus agreed and the oath stated that all present would ever come to the defense of the chosen husband if anyone brought quarrel to him. This would prevent any one kingomd from trying to attack Sparta because all of the other kingdoms would be bound to come to their aid.
It should be noted that no Trojans were present at the courting of Helen, and that the Oath is one of the driving factors of the Trojan War.

king tyndareus
When it was time for Helen to find a husband, there was much competition to see who would recieve her hand in marriage. King Tyndareus, her father, feared that war might break out over the fight for Helen, so he found a way to ensure this would not happen. Odysseus, in exchange for help in winning King Tyndareus's niece's hand in marriage, told the king of a way to stop war from breaking out. Thus, the Oath of Tyndareus was made and taken by all of Helen's suitors, who promised they would protect whoever married Helen, and thus protect Helen.

Tyndareus is the father of Helen of Troy. In order to not be negatively effected when he picked Helen's husband, he took the advice of Odysseus to make all of the suitors to pledge to come in defense of whoever married Helen if something happens to her.

icarius was the father of penelope and the brother of tyndareus in the odyssey
Helen was the daughter of Tyndareu, King of Sparta. Since Tyndareus had no sons, whomever Helen married would become King of Sparta. This, as well as her absolute beauty, meant that she had many suitors from all over Greece. Tyndareus feared naming a winner because any slighted losers might try to take Helen, and Sparta, by force. Odysseus, who felt he had no chance, came without a gift, but instead offered to Tyndareus a solution, which became known as the Oath of Tyndareus. All of the suitors, before a winner was named, had to swear that they would protect and defend the winner from anyone that wronged him. After this, Tyndareus named Menelaus, brother of Agamemnon, King of Mycenae, winner. When Helen was spirited away to be Paris' prize (for awarding the Golden Apple of Discord to Aphrodite), Menelaus called on the other kings to fulfill their oaths, which they did. That's the myth. Realistically, the Trojans and Achaeans would have eventually come into conflict anyway, if only over rights to control the shipping lanes in the Aegean ans Eastern Mediterranean. Helen's departure gave Menelaus and Agamemnon an excuse to beseige Troy, which was one of the richest cities in the world at that time.
The mother of Helen of Troy was Leda who was married to King Tyndareus of Sparta.
In Greek mythology, Helen's earth father was Tyndareus, while her divine father was Zeus. Tyndareus was the mortal husband of Queen Leda, who was said to have been seduced by Zeus in the form of a swan, resulting in the birth of Helen along with her twin sister Clytemnestra.
