The representations of Roman houses all show them with tiled roofs. This makes sense because tiles would allow the rain water to drain off quickly and if one were damaged, it would be simpler to replace a single tile than an entire roof.

The Romans used a variety of materials. They invented cement so that was used in most buildings. I was in an ancient Roman villa in Sicily that was constructed with marble, adobe, cement, and had mosaic flooring. It was 65 rooms and every floor/room had mosaics on them.
