poor people in the Roman Empire lived a lot worse off than the rich did. the rich had large homes with atriums and the poor and small cramped apartments. the rich also ate better food. the housing wasnt super important though because most people spent their times out of the house anyway.

When in the city, wealthy Romans lived mostly on the Quirinal and Caelian hills and in areas adjoining them. We know that the emperors Augustus, Tiberius and Domitian had houses on the Palatine hill, but because the Palatine is not fully excavated, we don't know who else lived there, but it would be a good guess that they were wealthy. When away from the city, the wealthy would live either at their villas or country houses.

They lived in a domus. They were one story townhouses. However there were many domus's in one atrium.

The Romans would live in apartments, some are nice, but not as nice as the rich people.
