It is thought that the first sundial was invented by the Ancient Romans in 440 B.C approx. The inventor of said sundial cannot be determined, but it is thought that the inventor was that of Leonardo da vinci, along with Julius Cesar.

The first evidence of the existence of sun dials are found in the Roman,Greek,Babylonian and Egyptian civilisations. The oldest known was developed in Greece around 340BC.
