Paul of Samosata was an heretical patriach of Antioch in Syria (from 260 to 272AD). He believed "that Christ was a human being, even if miraculously conceived, who was filled with divine power to an intense degree.. [and].. was so completely obedient to this power that he was elevated to the position of Son of God...[Paul of Samosata] would not alow prayer to Jesus Christ in his church, nor hymns in Christ's honour. God alone should be worshipped; prayers were to be through Christ as an intermediary between God and man." (Taken from p.85 of the book "Heresy - Heretical Truth or Orthodox Error? A Study of Early Christian Heresies" by Joan O'Grady, published by Element Books 1985, ISBN0 906540 75 5.) He was condemmed by the pope and exiled.
