The time after Nero's death is known as the year of the four emperors. Immediately following Nero's suicide, Galba was emperor. He didn't last long and Otho had enough followers to take the throne. The the troops in Germany opted for Vitallius and he overthrew Otho and became emperor until he, in turn, was overthrown by Vespasian.
