According to Biblical record (Genesis of The Bible's Old Testament or the Jewish Torah) the man Methuselah lived to be 969 years old! Almost a millennium old! Though generally ignored by many people and some scholars due to its religious nature, the Bible (specifically the King James, Authorized Version) is the most documented book on Earth with over 10,000 extant manuscripts still in existence today of the Masoretic text which backs the Old Testament writings therefore, the record within is very likely (from a secular point of view) very reliable.

NOTE: The fossil record does demonstrate that animals, plants and humans in the past, lived and grew to be much larger than they do at present. This fact along with other data such as oxygen content readings from ancient rocks and air pockets in fossilized sap reveal a richer oxygen atmosphere form our Earth's past that would account for such growth and also explain why there are many ancient records (not only in the Bible) that talk of an age when men grew taller and lived longer.

A:According to the Bible, Methuselah lived to the astonishing age of 969 years and then died the same year as Noah's Flood. This seems so impossible that we need only look more carefully at the age he is supposed to have achieved in the Bible and see whether there is a literary reason for this age. Many of the ages of the ancestors portrayed in the Book of Genesis involve numerology, using patterns involving the magic number 17. In cases where numerology was used in determining the age to which a person lived, we should regard the age as not really historical.

Methuselah had his first son at the age of 187, which is 11 X 17, and died a the age of 969, which is 57 X 17. That the oldest living person in the Bible would have the two most significant events in his life based on the number 17 is most improbable, demonstrating what we already knew - people have never lived to such great ages. The story of Methuselah's great age belongs in the Bible, not in history.

Answer:

Enoch was the oldest to ever have lived, since he did not die,but was taken to heaven. Gen:5:24: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Methuselah was the man with the longest life span at 969 years. Gen:5:27: And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
