Slavery was in every country in Ancient times.

It actually wasn't very big in ancient Egypt.

It was partly a symbolic thing. After invading a country, you would take a few of the people back to your country. This showed how you had truly conquered the country.

Most slaves worked like servants in rich households, including that of the pharaoh.

They were allowed to marry and have children. They could be freed by their owners.

Egypt didn't actually have a lot of slaves. Most of their slaves were from wars. It was standard practice back then to have slaves and bring some back after a victorious war. Slaves in Egypt weren't cruelly treated, not like in ancient Rome, as Egypt had few slaves so they were valuable.
