The Ten Commandments are important because they are the laws God handed down to Moses on Mt. Sinai. The Old Testament had over 600 laws, but after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Ten Commandments in the New Testament were the new laws for us to live by.

∙ 12y agoThe 'Ten Commandments' are a reminder to us of God's standard, but more importantly the Ten Commandments are there to remind of that we have fallen from God's holy standard, which should reveal our need for Christ.
The Ten Commandments should not be something that one tries to live by, as by living by law we can only fail. Instead the righteous shall live by faith.
So to reiterate, the Ten Commandments are there to reveal our need for Christ in our lives.
