Shang Hai was a major seaport on the east coast of China. Lots of merchant seamen activity in that city; bars, nightclubs, dockyard workers, and plenty of available man power (with sea-going experience). Civilian sailors "pressed into service" often found Shang Hai was the destination of their new home and job (on the ship); and Shang Hai is where some of the men were "Shang-Hai'd" to begin with.

I believe it began in the early shang dynasty with the samurais, but I'm not 100% sure.
Because the Huang He flow through the North China Plain, where China's first farmers lived in the Huang He Valley near the Yellow Sea. The soil there is fertile from the loess deposited by the Huang He.

It began as two small settlements: Dubh Linn and Áth Cliath. They were both on the river Liffey, over 2000 years ago. In the 9th century they became Viking settlements and from then the settlements grew.
