Kronos castrated his father Ouranos because his mother Gaia asked him to. Ouranos had a dream that one of his sons would overthrow him, so he pushed all the babies back into Gaia's womb. Of course Gaia was upset about this and asked her children to help her but Kronos was the one to step forward and he castrated his father.
