When Caesar died after being murdered by the senate, in his will Octavian (Caesar's nephew) was his heir. However, Marc Anthony came to power ignoring the will. Marc Anthony and Octavian declared war on each other (to be brief). Then however, they decided to reconcile and created the second triumvirate with Lepidus. They split the empire into three parts and each got their own part. They defeated all Cesar's murders. However this alliance soon expired and unfortunately for Octavian, marc Anthony still had support in Rome. In order to gain all of romes control Octavian used negative Propaganda to give anthony a negative image in Rome. Marc Anthony had married cleopatra who was an Egyptian queen which now made him a foreigner. They considered Cleopatra to be evil and all kinds of other things. Octavian had turned Rome against Anthony. They waged war on each other. With the help of Agrippa, a skilled naval commander Octavian defeated Anthony at sea. Anthony and Cleopatra fled back to Egypt where Octavian chased them down. Unable to accept defeat he turned to suicide, by falling on a sword. Cleopatra caused suicide by allowing a poisonous snake to bite her.
