Scribes were important because:

1. Most people were illiterate so they needed people to write things down for them - they could not do it themselves.

2. There were no photocopiers - if another copy was wanted it had to be written out be hand.

3. It was a sign of class. Scribes were usually from the educated class, as sometimes writing was very difficult and required much learning and memory eg Chinese scribes had to learn up to 15,000 separate symbols . They were a separate and higher social class than the average person.

4. Without them, their ruler and his empire would collapse. The ruler (for example, King Nebuchadnezzar of the Babylonian empire, or the Chinese emperors), would have their rulings, edicts, commands, and instructions for running the empire distributed to the respective governors, who then distributed it down still furthur. There were no telephones, so everything had to be written down and sent to the addressee. Without scribes, the empire would fall apart.

Scribe was a group of native american indians who came up with the first form of writing. This writing was called Tomepek. People who learned to write were tomepekens and were the most educated in their group. They came up with writing because the leader (Chief Horndog) became deaf after his friend Wong Dong played with his Wanger(an instrument) too long. Chief Horndog needed a way to communicate with his fellow tribmates so the group Scribe invented the first writing called Tomepek.
