Claes Oldenburg uses a variety of materials for his sculptures. Here are three examples that are most commonly used in his sculptures:
- acrylic and pencil on foam-filled canvas with wood, cord, and plaster (used as one).
- painted stainless steel and fiber glass.
- Cor-Ten steel painted with polyurethane enamel.
He inspired Jeff Koons through his oversized mundane objects as well as Dick Higgins. However I haven't found information about how/in what ways he inspired Higgins.
Claes Oldenburg is often associated with the Pop Art movement for making giant sculptures of regular objects.

I find that hyperrealistic, greatly oversized, or greatly undersized sculptures appeal to my teenagers. Use a search engine to look at the sculptures of Ron Mueck, Claes Oldenburg, Willard Wigan, and Duane Hanson.
