You are probably thinking of the Bataan Death March. It took
place on the Philippine Island of Luzon in May 1942. Bataan is a
peninsula on the island on the western side of Manila Bay. The
Japanese seized many islands in the Philippines, the Dutch East
Indies, and the British colonies in south Asia. In all these places
they killed thousands of their military & civilian prisoners,
as they had done in China since 1931.
