After Caesar's assassination, Marc Antony, as the only remaining counsul, acted to try to compromise between the assassins and the Caesarian party, for the good of the city. Afterwards, he joined with Octavian and brought Caesar's assassins to justice. He also, indirectly, contributed to the establishment of the Principate, by breaking with Octavian and losing at Actium.
