Your question cannot be answered because you are asking about two different things. A republic is a type of government. An empire is any vast holding, in Rome's case, territories. The two are different and one can't morph into the other.

How were the people of ancient Rome able to change their government?

The people of ancient Rome were able to change their government by civil protest or civil unrest. They overthrew the kings, established the republic (which even worked for a while) and finally, when the republic faded out, consented to the principate.

Why did the Romans change their government from monarchy to republic?

What problems did the roman republic face?

Ancient Greeks faced problems of many kinds in their effort to survive and to thrive. Natural hardships such as disease, famine, and weather vicissitudes had to be faced. Competition from their neighbors within Greek civilization (rival city-states and alliances) as well as overseas threats from the aggressive empire of Persia were other problems.

How did the roman rebublic fall apart?

The Roman republic began to fall apart years before it finally fell due to the cronyism and unyielding attitudes of certain members of the senatorial class. Powerful families made alliances more for their own advancement than for the good of the state. Elections were often rigged. Tribunes bought. By the time Julius Caesar came to power, the senate was split into two main groups, the Optimates, who wanted things the way they had always been, and the Populists who were for change. By taking advantage of this split, Caesar was able to rise to the position of Dictator and then Dictator for Life, brushing aside the authority of the senate and the Roman people. After Caesar's death the government retained the appearance of a republic, but in fact, was controlled by the triumvirates and their factions. After Actium, Octavian/Augustus transformed the republic into the principate.
