Life in the 13th century was characterized by feudalism, where society was organized around a hierarchical system of land ownership and obligations. The majority of people lived in rural areas and worked as peasants, while a small noble class held power and controlled land. The period also saw significant advancements in architecture, art, and literature, with Gothic cathedrals and epic poetry becoming prominent. However, life was also marked by widespread poverty, disease, and warfare, including the Crusades and Mongol invasions.
Life in England in the 1300s was not easy for most people. It was during 1348 that there was a major Plague outbreak, which killed off up to half of Europe's population at that time. Ironically, this did improve the living situation of the poor, who asked for higher wages since there was such a worker's shortage. Life in the 14th century was filled with war, collapsing institutions, disease, and natural disaster. Two of the most outstanding remembrances of the 14th century were the Bubonic Plague (or Black Death) and the Little Ice Age.
