We could use the term Dark Ages to refer to the period of about 410 to 1000 for Britain, beginning with the Roman withdrawal (I don't like the term, but that is another story). During this time there were several authors recording things going on in their times and writing about what they knew of earlier times. These people included Bede and Nennius. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle was written during the later part of this period also. There are links below.
