If it wasn't for Rome, Monolithic Stone buildings may have not been popular for thousands of years. The Roman Empire gave cities running water, fountains and great texts of history. Rome was a different empire from others that were before it, they used their brains that's why they were so successful, so they advanced military tactics, weaponry and defence. They created a good system of law and public order... The Roman Empire gave us great thinkers and wise people, education systems and academies. And don't forget about Roman roads and trade nor the brutal side of the empire such as the murders, it proves that throughout the ages, man is always moved by the same things... power love and fear.

They have been one of the first to have invented the legal system. This legal system is the base of our legal system. The roman constitution served as a model for some countries to make their own constitution. Ancient also contributed in war tactics and equipment. Some roman tactics are used today by soldiers in war or by riot police. The Romans were the first to use "artillery"(catapult etc.). Romans have also influenced us in architecture, sculpture, painting and mosaic. They have influenced us in our language. They have invented sewers. Romans invented the "Insulae" (sort of ancient "skyscrapers" where people lived. The highest "Insulae" that archeologist found is eight storeys high. (That is high for these times))
Rome Contributed many things to the modern world. They built sewers, public baths, They invented Highways, they discovered lead (which we now make bullets out of), They contributed to formations of modern armies. They Invented irigation, and the military college.
The Romans built roads, bridges and aqueducts that stand even today, 2000 years later. They also like the Greeks gave importance to education and human civil rights.
Rome contributed so much to the world that to flatly state what their "greatest" was would call for a year long debate. Some would say it was law and government, some would say central heating or indoor Plumbing and others would say concrete. You can take your pick of all their innovations and and give good reasons to say that each one was great.
