During the Second World War, Germany outright conquered Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, The modern day Czech Republic, Greece, The Eastern Part or Poland, the Northern Part of France, The Northern half of Italy and by annexation, Austria. Germany also conquered a large portion of Russia for part of the war and brought many other European nations into its political bloc through a variety of methods. The Axis powers in Europe nominally included Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Romania and Bulgaria. Vichy France was also a proxy or puppet state of Germany after the Spring of 1940. Finland was de facto allied with Germany after Hitler declared war on the Soviet Union. Germany also utilized Italian and French territories in North Africa during 1940 and 1941.

The European countries not conquered and not allied with Germany include Britain, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and Ireland. (also, various European micro-states, including Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican.)

also noteworthy would be the island of Malta, which technically a British possession at the time, withstood repeated attacks) Technically Turkey has some European territory as well, none of which was invaded.

Some states in Europe were occupied by other powers, notably eastern Poland, Lithuania (except for the port of Memel, which was annexed by Germany before the war) Latvia and Estonia, and parts of Finland, which were all taken by the Soviet Union.

Albania was also conquered by Italy.

The Romans did not conquer the areas north of the rivers Rhine and Danube except for a strip east of the Rhine in Germany up where the river bends toward Holland and except for Romania and Moldova (Dacia), which were north of the Danube. They also did not conquer the Scottish highlands. They built fortifications around its edges.
