Back then, people did not realize that children can be poisoned much more easily than adults, and that they should not eat and drink everything that an adult does. Various drinking vessels were in use during the medieval period. Wealthy people favored silver cups. Poor people might use an animal horn, a gourd, or a carved wooden cup. Ceramic was used for cups. It was very rare for drinking vessels to be made of glass.
