The ancient Romans decorated their homes as lavishly as they could afford. The walls, in many cases were frescoes depicting various scenes, from mythological scenes, to nature scenes, to architectural "fool the eye" compositions. They also had murals and paintings but none of them have survived. We know about them from the ancient writers. Their floors were done in either geometric tiles or mosaics. The mosaics could depict war heroes, such as Alexander the great, wild animals, or gladiators. The decor depended on the likes of the homeowner commissioning the decoration. A favorite color was red.

It depends on what type of buildings you mean. Public buildings might have statues of the god who was the patron of that building's purpose and also of the emperor and usually of the patron of the building. Private homes were lavishly decorated with frescoes depicting various events from the mythological to the mundane. Mosaics were used for flooring, also depicting various events. Public buildings' exteriors were faced with marble and could have very tall bronze doors. Private dwellings, although constructed of the common wooden building materials, had sturdy doors. Depending on the wealth of the owner these doors could be of exotic woods.

Did people decorate the interior of Roman home with calligraphy and geometric designs?

Yes, inside Roman homes and buildings was art on the walls and mosaics on the floors. The art wasn't calligraphy nor geometric designs, but of people and animals doing all sorts of things in life. Some of it was pretty graphic showing different sexual positions of couples. This art was in private homes and public buildings. If you visit a place like Pompeii that was buried since 79 AD you can still see the art work on the walls. The colors are vibrant and clear and there is no mistake about the subjects. Romans also decorated their graves with pictures of themselves and the things they did in life. That is one reason why historians know so much about the lives of ancient Romans.
