Unlike most Italian names, Talarico has no Latin root. The name is derived from the Visogoth King Alaric the great. Alaric, called Alarico by the Italians, sacked Rome in 410 AD. He then died in Cosenza Calabria and was buried in the river bed of the confluence of the Crati and Busento rivers. His offspring reportedly settled in Cosenza and at some point the name was changed to Talarico.
